- Listen to all the ‘poppin’ music and sounds of today
- Compare yourself to what is popular today and let your ego take over.
- Realize the best way to get Spotify plays in the present, (now) is to make what seems to be selling (to bots)
- Listen to all the poppin music and sounds of today (again and again)
- And again and again
- Get listener’s fatigue from listening to beats that all sound the same
- Listen to and watch tutorials on how to make music in the style of x popular artist/producer
- Copy the tutorials to a tee (don’t deviate or take any universal tips that could be applied to creating in your own style (because remember, you’re looking to be a carbon copy)
- This means buy (literally buy) into the hype of getting specific plugins and instruments
- Get down on yourself for not being able to sound exactly like x (try to ignore the fact that you may actually have your own style)
- Scrap the tutorials since they probably took too much time and get type beat sample packs (if you can) with prepackaged loops that you can put together with no real mixing needed (it’s already been done)
- Follow trends only because the objective is for short term gains not long term satisfaction in your original craft
- Don’t make what feels right to you (screw your artistic musical nature). Go with the flow of the stream… even if it’s heading for a waterfall
Bonus Tips: Honestly try to piggy back off of a trend. It helps with getting short term exposure. Also, when in doubt, compress for loudness. Don’t be dynamic. Don’t be true to yourself. Being yourself won’t get you anywhere.
Remember this: Strive to become the next Beyonce, Jay Z, J Dilla, Nujabes. Why create your own lane when you could just try to beat originals and try to become ‘the Next x’?

What I’m saying isn’t for everyone. I’m not bashing people who deconstruct musical works really and then take elements or the thought process behind a track and find ways to be original with the process. I’m kind of just fatigued at hearing the same things over and over. I think I’m secretly a pretentious hipster but I won’t admit it to myself.
